INTRODUCING KF7LHD

Amateur Radio Operators are numerous. The radio to the right is a monster, it is a stock photo.  It looks nothing like what Hubby has.

This is the unit hubby uses.  We can move it from car to house to trailer to .... 

Hubby has been an operator for many years now.  We feel that in the case of an emergency, communications should be able to be uninterrupted via the Ham Radio Waves.  We want to be able to contact family members and let them know we are fine.  

We also want to be able to be of service to our neighbors, friends, community and church. By providing communication for them between friends and family and emergency services.

Some of my family members are getting their licences, my parents, one of my brothers and some of his family.  One of my sisters is thinking about it.  I am sure that her husband will do it too if she does it.  

If I had known how easy the test was I would have done it years ago.  Easy is relative to Study, don't get me wrong please.  You have to know your stuff, just like in anything else, but if you apply yourself and study well, the test is easy.  

So I started studying as soon as I passed my Pharm Tech National Test.  I studied really hard for a couple of weeks and then set the stuff aside.  

The next time I could take the test was June 29th, and I really knew my stuff.  I got busy with my Extern-ship and didn't review or study, I kind of forgot that the test was coming.  

So the test being on Tuesday, I remembered that I needed to review what I had studied.  Now it was the Friday before so I started to review the 390 questions.  

Time got away from me and I only got about a third through the review.  Then it was suddenly test night.  I went.  It was the last time I could take this test, based on the questions I had studied.  The new question pool was starting on July 1, 2010.  

So I had no choice but to try. I was fairly confident because I had taken 2 random 35 question computer generated practice tests and only missed one from each try.

I went to the testing center, signed in, did the paperwork, paid my $14.00 and took the test.  I PASSED!!  I missed 5 questions, you were allowed to miss 10 and still pass.  So I did fine, but I could have aced it had I reviewed more.  

Now I am on a schedule for studying so that I can take the General class test, probably in August.  

I received my name in the DataBase last Tuesday.  I am KF7LHD- Amateur Technician License.  COOL....

50 plus Things About Myself - 1 to 10

1. What time do you usually get up in the morning? I usually self awaken between 6:30 and 7:00 am. My alarm goes off at 7am. Now that school is out, I have turned off my alarm and plan on letting the sun and morning sounds awaken me.


2. Diamonds or pearls? Diamonds. Diamonds are a girls best friend, yes my best friend is a diamond. Sad thing is that I think I accidentally threw away my first diamond earrings that I bought. It is a long story, but I do believe that since I can't find them they must have been cast out. That is my gut feeling.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinemas? Twilight. We even paid full price for the tickets! I very seldom go to the cinemas and then it is the $1.50 show. But we enjoyed it. My daughter and I enjoyed it more than the boys, but then we had read the books and were desiring to like the movie.


4. What is your favorite T.V. Show? (Internet watcher only. No TV signal in house.) I like 24 when it is 'in season'. My son and I couldn't wait until Tuesday to watch the newest episode.
It was awful sometimes, the wait was awful. There were days when we'd not get around to watching it for a week and then we could see 2 episodes at once. That was fun, except that it took so much time.


I also like to watch Bones and Lie To Me.

Again I do it via the Internet (Fox On Demand or Hulu) and so I can watch them on my time and not have to worry if I have to pause for minutes, hours, or even days!



5. What do you usually have for breakfast? I like eggs with cheese on toast for breakfast. I rarely eat cold cereal. I love oatmeal, but rarely time the time to fix it. Eggs are fast, easy and relatively inexpensive.


6.What is your middle name? My middle name is Lynne. But I prefer to use my maiden name on anything asking for a middle name. In fact, my new (16yrs) social security card has my maiden name as my legal middle name.


7. What food do you dislike? I don't like sushi, made with fishy things. I usually like almost anything edible.

8. What is your favorite CD at moment? I really don't have a favorite CD. I don't listen to music often, it isn't that I don't like music, 'cuz I do. It is just that I don't think about turning music on. I did before my computer hard drive crashed and I lost all the music I had transferred from my CD's. My CD's are put away and not easily retrieved. Who would have thought the hard drive would crash?

I do like the soundtrack from 'Saints and Soldiers'. I love TranSiberian Orchestra. Enya is awesome.



9. What kind of car do you drive? I love my Ford Expedition. I am blessed to be able to have this car and use it for my family. It takes us everywhere and camping too. Too big a lot of the time, but I am grateful to have it. (This photo is of a 2007 model, I couldn't find a photo of mine fast. Anyway, I like the newer models look.)

10. Favorite sandwich? Thin sliced turkey and lots of veggies, including avocado. Plain avocado, pinch of salt, and sliced tomato is great too. No mayo or whip needed.

More About Me

OK, since I have put that photo of me with Alli Aligator on my Blog, I am grossly reminded that I do not want to have gray hair ever again. I was growing it out to find my natural color so that I could choose a more blending hair color, but whoa! that photo is almost too 'precious' to share with everyone. It should be in my most secret file cabinet for only my children and parents to see. Ya know the unconditional love stuff.......

But then, I have decided that I do like myself and my gray hair does not define me so I will leave it there, because I love the photo showing how I happily held Alli. It reminds me that I happily wanted to bring her home with me.

A couple of weeks ago, I 'spured-of-the-momently' colored my hair and used what I had in my cupboard. I was going to do dark on bottom and lighter on top, but because it was spontanteously done, I forgot and mixed both colors together. The color is fine, but now I have to wait to do something 'radical'. Yes a small difference between top and bottom is radical for me. I am a no makeup, natural hair kind-of gal.

I know I feel better when my hair is colored, so I guess I will try to stay on top of that chore from now on. My DD Angel is old enough to help me and maybe together we can get mom's crowning glory to be fun and a little funky! (in a conservative form of do)

Look to the left (now above) and see me and Alli! At first I was going to name it Al - I do think of alligators as guys/ masculine. But with some effort, I have trained myself to think of this cutie as a little girl and want her to be a her. Alas, I don't have gators here in Utah and I am clueless on how to tell their gender. So I am calling it a her. And I am rambling on, just for the fun of it. See ya soon!

About Me - Sharinskishe

I thought I would take a moment and introduce myself to all my new Blogger Friends. My name is Shari. I go by the screen name Sharinskishe and this is how that came about.

'Shar-in-ski-she'- google Sharinskishe and it comes up me!!! Wow, I think that is awesome, but scarey too.

You can go to My Sqidoo page and see more about me. Although I haven't updated in over a year. But only a few things have changed.

'Shari'- my name, as in share - ee;
'n'- as a connecter;
'ski'- not for snow skiing, could be waterskiing, although I have not done that in a million and one years. It really is just for the reason that I like names with 'ski or sky' in them; and
'she'- for Stay-at-Home-Executive, I am a stay at home mom and love the opportunity I have to be here for my family.

So that is my name.

I am now 51 years old, young. My kids keep me young. I could have been a grandma by now if I had gone the conventional way and got married just out of high school or in college. But I am glad I waited.

I have had only one personal wedding ceremony and that is to my dear Hubby Mikel. He is my first. (OK, I also like the 'k' in Mikel, verses the spelling of Michael. I'm weird, but I want to be different!) We have been married for almost 19 years, in May it will be 19 years. We did marry later in life, I was 33 years old. It took way longer than I ever imagined to find my Dear Hubby. Funny thing is when I quit looking for him, he just appeared!

We have two children:

A boy, who is 16 nearly 17, who is named Pilot for his desire to become an airline pilot when he grows up. Which is not very far away. He will be taking flying lessons in a few years if everything works out well for him. He is in High School. Unbelievable, that he is so old!

A girl, who is 14 going on 16! Kids do grow up faster these days. She is named Angel, she truly is my Angel and my best friend. She is in High School this year and I can not believe she is growing up so fast. Her next big step will be her learners in 11 months- soon to be awesome driver like her awesome capable driver brother.

I grew up in a very wonderful home in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have the most wonderful awesome parents in the whole world. They are perfect for me. I wish I was perfect for them, but I am not perfect. I do know that they love me and that makes me special and happy!! I wish I never cause(d) them any trouble, I love them so very very much.

I have two wonderful sisters. I am in the middle of them age wise. I have three wonderful brothers, I am older than them. I am the second born in our family. But I was the last to get married and start a family. However, I was a family baby sitter for a long time and having my own babies was not scarey at all, I was pretty experienced.

I love being able to call my siblings and parents for advice on anything and everything. Someone is always one step ahead of me and when I find that person, they have been able to help me avoid some problems and keep me on the right track.

I have attended Ricks College in Idaho (now known as BYU-Idaho), Salt Lake Community College, BYU- Hawaii and continuing education classes.

I am a daughter of God. I am LDS, a Mormon. I spent 18months during 1984 and 1985 serving a mission for my church. I spent 2 months in Provo, Utah at our Missionary Training Center learning the basics of the Norwegian language.

Then I lived in Norway from the top to the bottom and inbetween for 16 months, helping spread the gospel to my fellow men. This was difficult for me in the sense, that I do not like to push my knowledge on others, but I was not there to push, I was there to teach. I only taught those who were interested and we found many wonderful people who wanted to know more. They did not all join my church, but I believe that because they learned more about Christ and his mission on this earth, that my time and labors were totally worth the effort. I never felt like I was wasting my time doing the Lord's work.

I also learned a lot about myself while I was serving my Heavenly Father. It is a blessing to be so focused on his teachings and have the opportunity to serve him by serving others. The Norwegian people are awesome and I loved that I was amongst them and could help them with shoveling of snow, taking in meals, being a friend and other small service gestures.

I was married to my Dear Hubby in the Salt Lake Temple in 1993. It was a wonderful event in my life. In our Temples, we can feel the spirit of calm, love and eternity. We are able to escape the difficulties of our hectic lives when we enter the doors of our Temples. There is nothing weird or secret about the Temple. It is a place that we believe we can find sanctuary from the woes of the world.

I love to make things, crafts, baking, sewing, gardening, stories, etc. I love to Blog. I love to visit and share. I often find myself running out of time to do all the things I want. But keep trying to make my life and the lives of my family better.

I wish I was skinny and more healthy. It is really an empty wish, or I guess it is really a wish not a desire. I just don't want to acept the responsibility that I can do something about my weight. I would then have to eat right, exercise and smile a lot of fake smiles as I would be miserable without my chocolate!!!

"Hi, my name is Shari and I am a "Chocoholic"," yes I am addicted to Chocolate. I am proud of it. (This should have been my very first sentence of my introduction!! ) Chocolate has not presented too many problems for me in my life and I am sure it is not the only reason I have put on pounds, which started when I was about 10 or so. I just love food.
